Wind Farm
County Tyrone
Slatbeg Wind Farm,
lies on the lower northern slopes of the
Slieve Beagh range within the townland of Fardross Mountain, which
is situated in the old civil parish of Clogher. The relevant area
lies within both the barony and ancient diocese of Clogher and
the county of Tyrone. The site is centred
on Ordnance Survey Grid Reference : H251000 Easting 346000 Northing
and lies approximately 6 km to the south-west of the town of Clogher.
|
 |
The site is surrounded
by commercial forestry to the north, and west and covers just over
1km2 in area. The land use of the site reflects a significant degree
of human activity. The predominant land use activity within the
proposed development site is the grazing of animals although there
is significant evidence of historic and recent turf cutting land
use activity.
Layouts
The proposed wind farm will consist of 9 three bladed, horizontal
axis, upwind turbines with a rotor diameter of nominally 84m, and
a hub height of around 70m. The maximum ground to tip height will
not exceed 112m. These machines will have a nominal generator rating
of 2-2.5MW resulting in an overall site installed capacity of between
18 and 22.5MW.

Environmental
Impact
A full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been undertaken
which has included Landscape and Visual, Ecological, Archaeological,
Hydrology, Geology and Noise Assessments for the wind farm. The
assessments have been compiled into an Environmental Statement (ES)
which was submitted accompanying a planning application for the
wind farm in August 2006.
A non
technical summary for the wind farm is available on request.
