DP Energy
The name DP Energy encompasses a number of companies which operate in the field of renewable energy and sustainable development. Each DP Energy company is a private limited company with the controlling shareholdings being held by Maureen De Pietro and Simon De Pietro.
The various DP companies are either registered in the appropriate jurisdiction based on the sphere of operation of that company (e.g. DP Energy Australia) or, where technology based (such as DP Marine Energy), simply registered at the main office address in Ireland.
Principles
It is a fundamental principle of DP Energy that all its developments are both sustainable and environmentally benign.
Sustainability has been defined as development which meets present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
In order to be environmentally benign it is a requirement that its activities are conducted in a manner which has the least possible impact on other species.
Principal Shareholders
There are two principal shareholders of DP Energy Companies:
MAUREEN DE PIETRO is an Owner / Director for the DP Energy companies. She is a graduate of Manchester University and was a practising solicitor in the UK from 1966 until the year 2000. In 1992 being aware of the need for action to combat threatened climate change and environmental degradation she gave up her law firm partnership to become a sole practitioner and to devote her time to the promotion of the production of energy from renewable resources. Since that time she has been an active member of a number of national and international wind and renewable energy associations for the promotion of renewable energy and active in development, construction and operation of renewable energy projects. Maureen has been a member of the Council of the Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) for over 10 years
SIMON DE PIETRO is an Owner / Director for the DP Energy companies. Simon De Pietro is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering (Aerodynamics and Fluid Mechanics) from the University of Liverpool, England, 1984, and a Chartered Engineer with a background in low emissions combustion in gas turbines used for power generation.
Simon has both analytical and field experience in power generation, initially within the Gas Turbine Industry before moving into Renewables, including on site commissioning experience and field testing worldwide as well as program and project management experience in both a development and a commercial environment.
Within the DP Energy companies Simon has extensive experience of site evaluation, monitoring, landowner negotiations, permitting and project contract negotiations through to the placement of turbine, interconnection, and electrical/civil works contracts.
DP Energy Companies
DP Energy Ltd (DPE) was formed with the specific objective of promoting the development and use of energy from renewable and sustainable resources with a primary focus on the development, construction and operation of small and medium scale wind farms and to provide a vehicle to operate and manage those projects from green field throughout the life of the projects in the UK
DP Energy Ireland Ltd (DPEI) was formed to promote the development of large scale wind energy projects within Ireland the UK and elsewhere
Although the initial focus of DP Energy was very much Irish and UK wind based we are have been steadily expanding operations into new geographic areas and into new technologies including Marine and Solar Energy and Energy Storage.
DP Marine Energy Ltd (DPME) was formed specifically to assess resource and develop both tidal and wave energy sites worldwide albeit with an initial focus on UK, and Irish Waters.
DP Energy Australia Pty Ltd (DPEA) is an Australian registered company with a base in Queensland which has been formed to identify opportunities and to develop both wind, solar and tidal energy projects within Australia supported by both DPEI and DPME.
DP New Ventures (DPNV) as the names suggests is a company formed specifically to identify new opportunities within the renewable energy or related sustainable development field wherever they might be.
Roles
DP Energy is a full start to finish developer which either operates independently, or in cooperation with other partners whether in a formal Joint Venture structure or in a looser co development agreement. None of the DP Companies operate in a consultancy role.
For wind projects in Ireland and Northern Ireland DPEI has historically acted as an independent developer and operator and develops, constructs and operates wind farms for project specific special purpose companies set up by its Directors.
In Scotland, England and Wales DPEI has for a number of years undertaken wind energy site identification and development through to obtaining planning consents for Scottish and Southern Energy Generation Ltd (a generation arm of Scottish and Southern Energy PLC) thereby assisting them to meet their renewable energy obligation targets.
Achievements
DP Energy has developed over 180 MW of built wind energy projects comprising 114 turbines, and has developed a further 107MW with planning consents and grid connection offers which are either in build or ready to build within the next two years.
In addition DP Energy is progressing a further 500MW of wind projects in the UK, Canada, and Australia which are at various stages of development.
In the Marine field DP Energy is actively exploring a number of sites in the UK and Ireland, and beyond for the development of utility scale marine energy projects. Its lead project a potential 400MW tidal stream project approximately 6km off the island of Islay on the South West Coast of Scotland is currently at a formal scoping stage, prior to submission of an Environmental Impact Assessment. For the Islay project DP Energy has recently been awarded an agreement for a Commercial Lease of 30MW by The Crown Estate. It is scheduled for build in 2015 through 2017.
